KEY-LOCKING INSERT

Key-Locking Inserts

Let mechanical keys resist rotation.

After the solid insert is screwed into position, its pre-installed keys are driven into the parent material to secure it mechanically.

DESIGNED FOR CONNECTION

Screwing it in is the first step. The keys secure it.

Key-locking inserts have internal and external threads. The outer thread engages the parent material and the inner thread accepts the screw. The keys are driven after positioning. Key quantity and installation requirements depend on the model; dimensions and load capacity cannot be inferred from appearance.

01

Anti-rotation structure

The keys create mechanical restraint between the insert and parent material.

02

Solid connection interface

The internal and external threads perform different connection tasks.

03

Assess repair suitability

Evaluate for repairs with sufficient installation space.

01 / STRUCTURE

Start with the right structure.

The insert structure determines how key-locking inserts connect and install.

01

Standard type

A solid body and locking keys form a mechanical anchor.

02

Locking type

Specify internal screw locking in addition to external key locking.

03

Custom type

Confirm outside diameter, number of keys and length against the drawing.

02 / MATERIAL

Match the material to the conditions.

These material options are discussion points; not every model is available in every combination.

01

Stainless steel

Confirm grade, strength and corrosion resistance against the supply drawing.

02

Other materials

Discuss the parent material, environment and connection loads.

03

Material documentation

Specify the material standard and required inspection documents in the order.

03 / SURFACE

The finish is part of the connection.

Consider friction, corrosion resistance and identification in the operating environment. Confirm available combinations with an engineer.

01

Surface condition

Confirm whether lubrication, protection or another treatment is needed.

02

Mating compatibility

Check the combination of parent material, screw, media and surface treatments.

03

Made to drawing

Include treatment type and thickness in dimensional and acceptance requirements.

INSTALLATION

From preparation to final inspection.

01

Prepare the installation hole

Drill and tap for the external thread and inspect the entry.

02

Install the insert

Position the insert at the specified installation depth.

03

Drive the locking keys

Use the specified tool to drive the keys according to the approved process.

04

Inspect retention

Inspect key position, internal thread and surrounding material.

Actual dimensions, tools and processes are subject to the approved product drawing and technical agreement.

Reading notes and applicability
  1. Metric key-locking insert installation references, in mm. Lightweight and heavy-duty series are separate: the same internal thread may need different external threads and hole sizes.
  2. The installation tap matches the external thread; the tapped hole is class 6H. Do not use wire-insert STI data or tap to the insert internal thread. Confirm the insert, material, tooling and drawing.
  3. L tolerance: +/-0.3 mm. Countersink diameter: +0.25 / -0.00 mm. Minimum tapping depth is not total drilling depth. Allow separately for drill point, tap lead and blind-hole clearance; drill tolerance and countersink angle follow the approved drawing.
  4. Standard and locking variants share the listed installation fields in the source, so these fields are combined. Locking geometry, locking-zone length, load and torque are excluded; interchangeability is not implied.
  5. Coverage: 8 lightweight and 20 heavy-duty metric combinations. Unlisted sizes, inch series and other families are not extrapolated. Listed dimensions do not establish ZCOIL supply availability.
  6. Installation drilling and removal drilling serve different purposes. Only installation fields are included here. Confirm key-slot preparation and installation requirements for hard parent materials.
  7. ZC-KL-20261001-R1. Reorganized from a public official catalogue. ZCOIL product compatibility is not verified. Approved drawings govern machining.

Frequently asked questions

Do locking keys necessarily lock the screw?

Keys primarily secure the insert to the parent material. Screw locking depends on whether the internal thread is a locking type.

Why is the parent material's hardness needed?

Parent-material condition affects key installation. The same pressing force or process is not suitable for every material.
